Friendship Public Charter School
The building is the high school portion of the Friendship Charter School Campus in Washington DC. The building is a new 37.5 million dollar, 95,000 sq. ft. building with partial underground parking garage and three floors. The garage houses the utility services and parking for cars and bikes. The first floor houses the administrative offices, kitchen, cafeteria, smart lab, elective labs and engineering shop. The second floor houses elective labs, classrooms, teacher lounge and the dean’s office suite. The third floor houses biology and chemistry labs, a green house, elective labs, conference room, and conference rooms.
The building is designed to LEED Silver certification. The mechanical system has three roof mounted VAV air handling units. Each space is provided with individual temperature control. The plumbing system uses low flow toilets and urinals with auto flush sensors and restricted flow lavatories with auto sensor. Fluorescent lighting is used through-out the building with day light sensors and motions sensor controls. The kitchen is a warming kitchen with walk-in cooler and freezer, hot plate serving tables and dishwashing facilities. The emergency service is provided by an on-site diesel-fired generator. The building is fully sprinklered and supported by a fire pump.
